Die FDA, also die U S amerikanische Food and Drug Administration, hat 30 dverschiedene Kratom Produkte aus verschiedenen Shops auf Schwermetalle getestet. Die Ergebnisse finden sich auf der unten angegebenen Seite. Ähnliche Ergebnisse kann man wohl für den europäischen Raum erwarten. Bei der Durchsicht habe ich mich gefragt, ob Mitragynia speciosa zu den Hyperakkumulator-Pflanzen, also Pflanzen die besonders viel Metalle aufnehmen, gehört. Wundern würde es mich nicht, sind die Mitragynia Arten doch relative Starkzehrer. Das würde zum Beispiel hohe Nickelgehalte in getesteten Proben erklären.
Laboratory Analysis of Kratom Products for Heavy Metals
FDA conducted laboratory testing of 30 different kratom products from a variety of sources to determine if they contain heavy metals. The analysis found significant levels of lead and nickel at concentrations that exceed safe exposure for oral daily drug intake.

Based on these test results, the typical long-term kratom user could potentially develop heavy metal poisoning, which could include nervous system or kidney damage, anemia, high blood pressure, and/or increased risk of certain cancers.

Das Repräsentantenhaus von Utah hat gestern für den „Kratom Consumer Protection Act“ gestimmt, damit schließen sich die Mitglieder des Unterhauses dem Senat des US-Bundesstaates an.
Diese Entscheidung wird in Aktivistenkreisen als wegweisend für die weitere Entwicklung der Kratomregulierung in den USA betrachtet. Die American Kratom Association, der größte Kratom-Lobbyverband des Landes, twitterte gestern Abend:
„Der Kratom Consumer Protection Act sendet ein starkes Signal zur FDA und DEA, in dem es beweist, dass Bundesstaaten Kratom angemessen regulieren können, ohne selbiges gänzlich zu verbieten. Darüber hinaus wird es die einzelnen Kratomuser dazu befähigen fundierte Entscheidungen über ihren Kratomgebrauch zu treffen.“
Was bedeutet der Kratom Consumer Protection Act?
Der Kauf von Kratom wird auf volljährige Personen beschränkt.
Produkte die andere Substanzen als Kratom beinhalten (z.B. O-Desmethyltramadol) dürfen nicht im Handel angeboten werden.
Es gilt eine Etikettierungsvorschrift nach welcher der Gehalt von Mitragynin und 7-Hydroxymitragynin auf der Verpackung von Kratomprodukten angegeben werden muss.
Die Wirkstoffkonzentration von 7-Hydroxymitragynin wird auf maximal zwei Prozent festgesetzt.
Jegliche Streckmittel die den psychoaktiven Effekt der Pflanze verändern sind verboten.
Somit bleibt der Umgang mit Kratom in Utah legal. Da die Pflanze bereits in sechs US-Bundesstaaten illegalisiert wurde, ist dieser Gesetzesentwurf ein Lichtblick für die Kratom-Community.
In weiteren Bundesstaaten, unter Anderem in Arizona, wurde der Gesetzesvorschlag ebenfalls eingebracht.

The herbal supplement has been targeted as a “drug of concern” by the FDA and DEA.
The number of deaths associated with kratom appears to be rising.
A new report by the CDC analyzed data from 27 states on 27,338 overdose deaths between July 2016 and December 2017. A small number was attributed to kratom.
“Kratom was determined to be a cause of death (i.e., kratom-involved) by a medical examiner or coroner for 91 of the 152 kratom-positive decedents, including seven for whom kratom was the only substance to test positive on postmortem toxicology, although the presence of additional substances cannot be ruled out,” the report read.
The herbal supplement credited with helping recovery from substance use disorder has been targeted as a “drug of concern” by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Some people in recovery say the plant, native to Southeast Asia, was vital to their recovery from drugs and alcohol, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and more. But with every success story, there is a person struggling to quit kratom as wellWebsite name.
A majority of the kratom-involved deaths involved people with a history of substance use disorder. A significant majority of the kratom-positive decedents were Caucasian.
The data also showed that “multiple substances [were] detected for almost all decedents.” The most common were fentanyl and fentanyl analogs, then heroin, benzodiazepines and prescription opioids.
The FDA has railed hard against kratom, stating last year that “compounds in kratom make it so it isn’t just a plant—it’s an opioid.”
The February 2018 statement cited 44 deaths associated with kratom use. Prior to that, in a November 2017 advisory, the FDA reported 36 deaths related to kratom.
The FDA said it is “especially concerned” about people who use kratom to treat opioid withdrawal, and though it states that it is open to reviewing evidence that kratom does have healing properties, it so far has not come across any “that would meet the agency’s standard for approval,” and warns against using kratom to treat medical conditions or as an alternative to prescription opioids.
“While kratom may have useful effects, right now, it’s wholly unregulated,” Henry Spiller, director of the Central Ohio Poison Center, told ABC News.
Only a few U.S. states have outright banned the plant. Some states are considering legislation to regulate the plant, rather than prohibiting it.

Gute Neuigkeiten für die Kratomcommunity in den USA: Nevadas demokratischer Gouverneur Steve Sisolak hat am 5. Juni 2019 den „Assembly Bill No. 303“ unterschrieben. Damit tritt der „Consumer Protection Act“ auch in diesem Bundesstaat in Kraft.
Effektiv hat dies folgende Auswirkungen:
Kratomprodukte dürfen nicht an Minderjährige verkauft werden.
Herstellung, Handel und das Bewerben von verunreinigten Kratomproukten ist verboten. (Damit ist vorallem die Beimischung von synthetischen Opioiden gemeint.)
Kratomprodukte unterliegen nun einer Etikettierungspflicht, die Informationen über Wirkstoffgehalt und Safer-Use Maßnahmen vorschreibt.
Zuwiderhandlungen können mit einer Geldstrafe von bis zu 1.000 US-Dollar geahndet werden.
Nevada ist somit, nach Arizona, Georgia und Utah, der vierte US-Bundesstaat in dem eine liberale Kratomregulierung beschlossen wurde.

So while kratom — a legal plant drug with opioid properties — has been in the crosshairs of federal regulators in the US for years, now the booming business surrounding it has come under threat from Indonesian authorities.
Indonesian news outlets reported at the end of June that authorities are considering a ban on growing and exporting kratom. Nothing is set in stone yet, but the country’s National Agency of Drug and Food Control has proposed a ban that would take effect in 2024, giving farmers time to transition to other crops.
This bit of Indonesian policy would be completely unremarkable for people in the US, if not for two factors: Most kratom in the US comes from Indonesia, and a major US kratom lobbying group is blaming the Food and Drug Administration for pushing Indonesia to ban kratom exports...

From the data obtained, MMS (50 and 75 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly reversed the ethanol-place preference in mice, which is similar to the effect observed in the reference drugs acamprosate (300 mg/kg, p.o.) and clozapine (1 mg/kg, p.o.) treatment groups in CPP test. Likewise, the escalating doses of ethanol-conditioned mice reduced the runtime to reach goal box, infers the positive reinforcing effects of alcohol. Interestingly, MMS (50, 75 and 100 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly prolonged the runtime in ethanol-conditioned mice. Besides, MMS (50 and 75 mg/kg, p.o.) and reference drugs; acamprosate (300 mg/kg, p.o.) and clozapine (1 mg/kg, p.o.) treated mice significantly decreased the alcohol-induced elevated dopamine level in the NAc region of the brain. Overall, this study provides first evidence that MMS inhibits ethanol seeking behaviour in mice. Based on these findings, we suggest that Mitragyna speciosa may well be utilized for novel drug development to combat alcohol dependence.

These findings add substantially to the knowledge base on kratom-associated deaths; these need systematic, accurate recording. Kratom’s safety profile remains only partially understood; toxic and fatal levels require quantification.
